5 Tips for Making a Blog “Popular”

Posted by Kate Morris on Nov 25, 2008

I was recently at PubCon listening to a panel called “5 Bloggers and a Microphone.” Some great people on that panel. They were lacking good questions though, so I asked my friends on Twitter if they had any questions. I got one good one out of the bunch. So here are the Top 5 Tips (a few more bonus tips too) to making a blog popular.

  1. Barry Schwartz – Be on a specific schedule.
  2. Lee Odden – resource pages seem to be the most popular pages
    • RSS and blog directories
    • Be passionate
  3. Michael MacDonald – Be passionate and consistent
  4. Jane Copland – Throw in something really silly aka Google One Box post on SEOmoz and use pictures
  5. Andy Beal – Focus on the title of the post
    • Make it scandalous but SE friendly
    • Blend Keywords and Interest
    • Be cryptic
  6. Write a follow up post on what goes popular
  7. Capitalize on old posts that get popular
