New Year Focus: Creativity

Making resolutions can be easy at the beginning of the year. Keeping them is another thing entirely. I resolved to pay off either my student loans or my car this year, and to complete a training program called P90X. I did none of that, but accomplished so much more. I started working on my own (which tied up my financial resources) and finished up the last of my classes for my MBA. I didn't finish the training program, but I have lost 23 lbs ...

Tweet Note: I am testing something. Please ignore this page. This post has been brewing for sometime but it appears I waited too long to be the first. The Huffington Post wrote about this issue and linked to the Consumerist story of the same kind. I would like to give a first hand user's point of view. I am hoping we can all learn something about email marketing, customer service, social media, and the impact of a bad idea on all of ...

Raven PubCon Shirt Giveaway

Pubcon is always a great time. This year was no different - staying up until the sun comes up, crazy antics, and the best SEM information in one place. This year's PubCon was sponsored by Raven Tools - a tool that I use and talk about regularly. I am a fan of their product and their whole team. [caption id="attachment_952" align="center" width="300" caption="Raven Team"][/caption] A few weeks before PubCon, Jon Henshaw sent me the coolest ...

Favorite Charity: March of ...

When Purpose Inc asked the attendees of PubCon to choose a favorite charity, I blanked. I have raised money and walked/run for so many great ones. Most recently those focused on cancer research because that seems to touch my life more everyday. But I didn't pick any of those. Instead I am going with the one that touched my life and so many others from the start of our lives. The March of Dimes. I was born prematurely and very sick due to my ...

Livestrong 5k Update

This is the first year I decided to join in on the Livestrong Challenge. I lost a friend to cancer last year and have another fighting it currently. Then a friend on Twitter announced his battle and in the same week I learned that my grandmother's was back. The list gets longer each week, month, and year. I have been blessed thus far to not have it, and so I am dedicated to do what I can to help those that do. Running has become a love of ...

UPDATE: You have to find your DNS settings from the Belkin router and manually put them into the settings on your MacBook airport advanced settings. See here for more. http://kl.am/snowbelkin A few weeks ago, I noticed that I wasn't able to fully access some sites from home. Mainly MailChimp and Twitter. I could get to them, but I couldn't fully load them. Oddly enough, when connected to other networks, things loaded just fine. So I turned to ...

You answer "They work on the Internet ..." when asked what your child does. Since that narrows it down. You ask them for help with your computer when it breaks. As if we know what is wrong with your computer at all times. You send all of your friends to your child when their computer breaks. See #2. We just problem solve. You think they can design anyone a website. Repeat after me. Web designers aren't SEOs, and SEOs aren't web ...

There is No Map for Success

Working in search engine marketing, we see all sorts of articles that seem like they will give you the answers to all of your online marketing issues. I've written some, and the titles do sound awesome, but if you read them they will always say (or should) "every company is different." We can tout different site maps and plans all day, but in the end the point is there is no road map to success. Online or in life generally. If you read any ...

I have been noticing a trend on my twitter account @katemorris. I get new followers on a fairly regular basis, but most are spam, so I don't pay the emails any mind. So why not turn off the notification emails you ask? Do I just like to see my follower number go up? Nope. (No really!) There are sometimes that people/businesses follow me that I know and want to follow when I see their names. Just the other day, someone I thought I was ...

The Seven Year Itch

It has been a goal of mine for a long time to be a published author. Poetry, business, fiction, something. So imagine my surprise when I come across search results for my name with a new book. The Seven Year Itch is by Kate Morris, but another wonderful lady that lives in England. She has a blog hosted on blogspot, and her book is available through Amazon UK only (sigh, I'll have to bug someone to get it for me). I have not read it yet, but ...
